Playing The Woman Card

In the past few days, the US presidential campaign sank to new depths, with Democratic and Republican candidates debating Trump’s misogynist treatment of a former Miss Universe.  As if this was not enough, Rudolph Giuliani, a surrogate for the GOP candidate, made a straight up appeal to voters based on the candidates’ chromosomal make-up, in combination with their ability to manipulate the tax code:  “Don’t you think a man who has this kind of economic genius is a lot better for the United States than a woman . . .”  Young female citizens who might have been thinking that they could be president one day have gotten their comeuppance.

Looking for a place to process all of this?  In a timely event, the Center for Civil and Human Rights in Atlanta will host a discussion on Women and Politics on October 27, 6 – 8:30 p.m.  More information is available here.  The discussion is billed as “a candid conversation on gender bias in the United States political system,” addressing “whether it is important to elect a female president.”  Those who are able to attend will have much to discuss.
