Human Rights Institutes Conference

On September 28-30, the Danish Institute for Human Rights  will host the 2014 reseach conference of the Association of Human Rights Institutes.

There are five conference tracks:
(1) International Institutions and their Discontents;
(2) Development and Human Rights;
(3) The European Union and Human Rights;
(4) Human Rights and the Other; and
(5) Methods and Theories of Human Rights.

U.S. academic institutions and human rights institutes are well-represented.  The keynote address for the conference will be delivered by Dean Makau Mutua, Buffalo Law School (SUNY), and U.S. presenters from NYU (Profs. Sally Merry and Meg Satterthwaite), among others, will be participating.  U.S. advocates may be particularly interested in the track on “Methods and Theories of Human Rights,” which includes a focus on the measurement and metrics of human rights progress.   Other interesting papers include a series of remarks about the treatment of prisoners, including one addressing the right to the internet in prison.
