Event 11/16-21: Human Rights in the Americas Symposium

From November 16th through 21st, 2025, the University of Miami School of Law, in collaboration with the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR), will host the Human Rights in the Americas Symposium: An Examination of Past, Present, and Future. This week-long event will explore critical issues in democratic institutions, migration, housing justice, gender justice, racial justice, and the environment.

The symposium coincides with the IACHR’s 194th Period of Sessions, which will allow attendees to hear testimony from those presenting at the hearings. In addition to panel discussions, the program will feature an art exhibit on the right to housing by Red Line Service and a special opening event: the Henkin Human Rights Lecture and welcome reception with Ken Roth, former Executive Director of Human Rights Watch and author of Righting Wrongs, on Sunday, November 16, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m.

The symposium will take place at the Lakeside Village Pavilion, 1280 Stanford Drive, Coral Gables, Florida. The opening lecture will be held at the University of Miami School of Law, 1311 Miller Drive, Coral Gables, Florida.

All sessions will be livestreamed and recorded for those who cannot attend in person.
